BBA SELECTS BLUEPRINT BIRMINGHAM

IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(January 19, 2011) – The Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA) has named 16 public and private leaders to the Blueprint Birmingham Implementation Committee.  The committee will be responsible for implementing the five-year strategy’s objectives and action steps.

 

“I can’t imagine a stronger and more capable team to guide the implementation of Blueprint Birmingham,” said BBA Chairman James McManus. “Each of these leaders understands the unique opportunity we have to implement a far-reaching strategy that ensures long-term economic prosperity for our region.”

 

Serving as co-chairs of the Implementation Committee are:

  • Rob Burton, President of Hoar Construction,
  • Jay Grinney, President & CEO of HealthSouth Corporation, and
  • Fred McCallum, President of AT&T Alabama. 

 

Burton and Grinney led the BBA’s Steering Committee, which developed the Blueprint Birmingham strategy over the past year.

 

Co-leaders will be responsible for implementing the specific action items within each of the four goal areas.

 

Public and Private Leadership will be led by:

  • Alex Dudchock, Shelby County Manager, and
  • Johnny Johns, Chairman, President & CEO of Protective Life Corporation.

 

Workforce Development will be led by:

  • Nancy Goedecke, Chair & CEO of Mayer Electric Supply, and
  • Dontá Wilson, State and Regional President of BB&T.

 

Economic Prosperity will be led by:

  • Jeffrey Bayer, President of Bayer Properties, and
  • Nelson Bean, President of First Commercial Bank.

 

 

 

Community and Regional Stewardship will be led by:

  • Don James, Chairman & CEO of Vulcan Materials, and
  • Claude Nielsen, President & CEO of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United, Inc.

 

Representing the public sector on the Implementation Committee are:

  • Stan Batemon, Chairman of the St. Clair County Commission,
  • William Bell, Mayor of the City of Birmingham,
  • Tony Petelos, Mayor of the City of Hoover,
  • Oliver Robinson, State Representative, and
  • Jabo Waggoner, State Senator.

 

Other business leaders serving on the Implementation Committee are the Chair and three Vice Chairs of the BBA:

  • James McManus, BBA Chairman and Chairman, CEO & President of Energen,
  • Charles McCrary, BBA Vice Chair-Economic Development and President & CEO of Alabama Power Co.,
  • John McMahon, BBA Vice Chair-Public Policy and Chairman of Ligon Industries, and
  • Jesse Lewis, BBA Vice Chair-Communications and President & CEO of The Lewis Group.
