The magazine weighed factors like rate of entrepreneurship, population growth and job creation in its rankings. Birmingham, which landed at No. 37, was touted for Innovation Depot, the largest entrepreneurial support system in the Southeast, and the newly-created Alabama Futures Fund, the largest seed-stage investment fund in Alabama’s history.

“We are pleased and proud to be recognized by Inc. as part of this feature,” said Jon Nugent, Vice President of Innovation and Technology at the Birmingham Business Alliance. “We are particularly gratified that they took time to appreciate the multiple entities that partner together to make Birmingham such a great city for entrepreneurs and startup companies to grow and thrive.”
