Summer Internships

Look no further than the Birmingham Business Alliance’s (BBA) FuelAL internship program, in partnership with the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA) and Innovate Alabama.

FuelAL aids in connecting interns to professional, volunteer service and networking opportunities. This summer, the BBA has planned a series of events designed to bring together interns from across the region.

If you’re a student interested in being a part of opportunities outside of the 9-to-5, apply to join the BBA’s FuelAL program today and get ready to broaden your network and socialize with peers through professional workshops, team-building exercises and more!

Eligibility: All 2026 Greater Birmingham Region summer interns are eligible to apply to the FuelAL program.

July 2: BHM Legion FC vs. Detroit City FC Soccer Match

Come watch the Birmingham Legion soccer team play Detroit City in a private VIP box reserved just for FuelAL interns! “Salute to Service” fireworks will be part of this event. Enjoy the Legion FC Snack Pack: 3 types of popcorn, tortilla chips, dip, and queso, pretzel bites and beer cheese, and an assortment of waters and sodas during the game. *Limited to the first 42 to register for the event, so act fast!

July 11: Networking Social

Connect, learn and expand your network during Social & Networking on July 11 with members of Rotaract Birmingham (the largest Rotaract chapter in the world!) for their summer kickoff social. Rotaract is a global organization for young adults ages 18 to 35 that focuses on leadership development, professional networking, and community service.

July 14: Professional Development Social

Join us on Monday, July 14 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Aldridge Gardens in Hoover for an evening of professional development and networking, focusing on the hospitality industry. Interns will hear firsthand how every field of study connects to and plays a role in the hospitality and tourism industry—from operations and marketing to finance, events, and beyond. It’s an opportunity to gain real-world perspective, ask questions, and connect with professionals shaping one of Birmingham’s most dynamic industries.

July 21: Social and Networking with Rotaract

Connect, learn and expand your network during Social & Networking on July 21. This Rotaract partnership event will bring interns together with professionals and community leaders for an evening focused on meaningful connection and career exploration. The evening will focus on relationship building, interactive trivia, and candid conversation between interns and Rotaract members currently living and working in Birmingham.

July 28: Community Service

On Tuesday, July 28 from 3:00–5:30 p.m., interns will have the opportunity to step into hands-on service with  Grace Klein Community at the Morgan UMC FeedBHM Hub and Community Outreach Hall. Participants will sort and log clothing donations, organize the Give and Take Room, bundle shoes, and helping inventory and stamp books.

All participants MUST COMPLETE the Volunteer Release Waiver before arriving. Please wear comfortable clothes that can get a bit dirty. Closed-toed shoes are recommended. 

July 28: Celebration Dinner

On Tuesday, July 28 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., interns (and their managers) will be invited to a special celebration dinner to close out the summer together.
