WHY BIRMINGHAM?

There are several reasons why Birmingham is a great place to grow a business. First, it has a large number of colleges and universities that provide a well-educated workforce. Second, the significant amount of research, specifically medical research, being conducted in Birmingham spawns many new business ideas with the potential to develop into successful, fast-growing business enterprises. BioHorizons is a good example of what can be accomplished in Birmingham. The company was born out of medical research conducted in UAB's Department of Biomedical Engineering. BioHorizons' first employees were students and professors from UAB.  Most of BioHorizons 300 employees are graduates from one of the many colleges or universities in Birmingham and other parts of Alabama.
