Birmingham Named No. 6 Best Place to Live in the United States
The Greater Birmingham Region is earning national recognition as a place where people – and businesses – can thrive.
Birmingham has been ranked No. 6 on Livability’s Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S., highlighting the city’s growing momentum and strong quality of life.
Livability’s rankings evaluate nearly 100 data points, including economy, cost of living, amenities, housing, and quality of life – areas where Birmingham continues to compete nationally.
From its affordability and diverse economy to a vibrant downtown, outdoor access, and a nationally recognized food and culture scene, Birmingham offers a lifestyle that is both accessible and dynamic.
“Birmingham is proving what we’ve long known - this is a city where you can build a career and a life,” said Steve Ammons, President and CEO of the Birmingham Business Alliance. “From our affordability and quality of place to the strength of our business community, we’re competing with and outperforming similar markets across the country.”
In 2024, the Birmingham Business Alliance hosted Livability Editor Amanda Ellis for a media visit, providing an on-the-ground look at the people, places, and projects shaping the region. That firsthand experience helps ensure Birmingham’s story is being told in a way that reflects its true momentum.
Birmingham’s No. 6 ranking is part of a broader trend of increased national attention and growing interest from talent, companies, and investors. As more people discover what makes this region special, one thing is clear: Birmingham is no longer a best-kept secret—it’s a top destination.
